Lockchip from the bituchem group
LockChip can be used on new surface dressed roads, or on old ones that are starting to reach the end of their lifespan. Using LockChip on newly surface dressed roads will improve early and long term chip retention, and will provide a blackened surface similar to that of a new blacktop. Surface dressed sites that have been treated have had a good response from the general public as the road is blackened and loose chippings have been minimised.
Over a 1,000,000 sqm were treated in 2014.

As the UK’s leading in-situ road recycling contractor, SPL specialise in the long term structural repair of failing roads.
Through a two stage process of pulverisation of the existing road followed by deep stabilisation using typically a hydraulic binder (cement/PFA blend), we reuse the existing pavement and sub base materials to effectively create a new ‘SPL Stabilcourse’ layer with the strength and life expectancy equal to that of a traditionally designed and reconstructed road.
Through extensive site investigations and mix designs in compliance with industry specifications including TRL Reports 386 and 611, we can ensure the long term performance for roads carrying vehicles up to 30msa, in both urban and rural locations namely Class 1,2,3 and 4 roads.
Customer comment: Ian Sturrock, Enfield Council’s principal highways maintenance engineer highlights: “stabilisation is an innovative approach the provides a cost effective carriageway construction with a twenty year design life as well as significant reductions in CO2 levels for construction and congestion.”
Encapsulating hazardous tar: SPL’s in-situ road recycling process is becoming the preferred method of dealing with cold 'tar' bound roads as the resultant recycled mix encapsulates the hazardous contaminants, rendering them harmless to the environment and avoids expensive removal and disposal at a licensed hazardous waste facility.
Key benefits over traditional treatments:
20 year design life
Cheaper to construct
Lower carbon footprint
Faster build times
